Blake Saban – Guitars/Vocals & Glendon Finlay – Drumcussion
The Urban Chiefs are a Psyche – Blues – Stoner – Rock band from Tamworth NSW. Blake Saban (Guitars & Vox) and Glendon Finlay (Drumcussion) have been changing people’s perspective of what a ābandā should look and sound like since 2009. The pairs huge sound is due to Blakesā unique set up of playing his array of custom guitars through two guitar amps, a bass amp and an acoustic DI signal. Combine this with his powerhouse gravelly vocal stylings and Glendonsā tribal and at times frantic, percussive drum style and you have an Australian two piece like no other. There is so much happening on stage that often people are mistaken in thinking that the guys are using samples or pre-recorded material but everything you hear is being produced by the Chiefs as it happens!
ā…a cracking slab of Psyche-Blues!ā
Samuel J.Fell – RHYTHM MAGAZINE AUSTRALIA
āA huge sound for just two guys!ā
Peter Fricker – SYDNEY BLUES & ROOTS FESTIVAL
“Mix Woodstock era psychedelia with slide guitar fiery enough to weld a car axle, The Urban Chiefs are heavyweights in a genre of music that often lack that fire in the belly instinct. Keep the fire extinguishers handy when these guys play!”
CJ Plain – FIREBRAND ROCK RADIO DETROIT USAā
āThe Urban Chiefs are a festival favourite.ā
Jimmy Budgen – MITCHELL CREEK ROCK N BLUES FESTIVAL
āWe love the Chiefs! Always a full house when they play here!ā
Michael Starky – STAG & HUNTER NEWCASTLE
The two piece have been making a name for themselves along the East Coast of Australia playing festivals and venues to receptive audiences from Cairns down to Tassie and everywhere in between. Clocking up over 1250 shows in 15 years the Chiefs show no signs of slowing down. 2025 will see them record and release their fifth studio album; the pair are set to embark on another national tour to promote the new record.
In this short time they have achieved a great deal gaining Top 5 Blues and Roots Artist in the 2013 MUSICOZ Australian Independent Music Awards. Second release āCity of Lightā debuted at #18 in the Australian Blues & Roots Airplay Charts and the band have had various songs aired on Triple J and Double J along with film clips aired on Rage.
